I am the convener of the Resource Management & Environment Committee and a member of the Society’s Courts Committee.
Areas of Practice
In my 35 years of practice, 23 of them as partner in a leading litigation firm, I have practised in most areas of the law. I have appeared in Courts at all levels, in most specialist tribunals and in numerous arbitrations and mediations.
My areas of specialty are in Public Law, including Local Government, Resource Management and Judicial Review. I have acted in many regulatory and administration law cases. Another specialty area is valuation and compensation cases. I have a strong background in civil and commercial litigation, professional negligence and discipline cases, construction and property disputes.
I routinely appear in resource management cases. I have been involved in numbers of environmental mediations.
Community Involvement
I am actively involved in social and community affairs and undertake pro bono legal work for church, school and community organisations.
I presently chair the Ethics Committee for St Joseph’s Hospice, and am a member of the New Zealand Board of Habitat for Humanity.
I was a member of the Board of Trustees of Rosmini College from 1984 until 2007, the last 9 years as Board Chairman.
I am a member of and provide legal assistance to environmental organisations.
